About History of Venugopala Swamy Temple

Establishment

The Venugopala Swamy Temple located at Iyengar Medical Foundation, Hessaraghatta district of Bangalore Karnataka, India is an example 12th century Hoysala architecture in Karnataka, India. This temple was built in the 20th century AD around the same time as the Venugopala Swamy Temple at Hessaraghatta, Bangalore. The Venugopala Swamy Temple, also referred to as Sriman Narayana Swamy of recent origin. The original temple with an area of around 1.5 acres 100 by 60 yards (91 m × 55 m). The complex was a symmetrical building enclosed by two ‘prakaras’ and the outer gate (Mahadwara) had verandahs on both sides, flanked by the yagasala and the kitchen.

Inception

Smt  SS Iyengar’s long-cherished dream to nourish and care for the revered “Punyakoti Gomatha” took shape under divine blessings and grace. In 2016, her vision began to materialize with the dedication and support of devotee Dr. SS Iyengar. Over the course of a year, their unwavering commitment to the cause brought them closer to establishing a sacred space for this noble purpose. Guided by the blessings of Swamy Lord Venugopalaswamy, the “Gosala” was founded, with its sanctified “Moolasthana” established at Hessaraghatta. This divine initiative not only serves as a place for the worship and care of sacred cows but also reflects the serene and elegant design inspired by Japanese aesthetics, creating a space where tradition and modernity converge.

Foundation Ceremony

The foundation pooja for this sacred initiative was performed with great devotion and reverence on the auspicious day of 6th October 2017 at precisely 8:48 AM. The ceremony was led by the devoted Smt. S.S. Iyengar, whose unwavering faith and dedication to the divine guided every aspect of the ritual. Surrounded by the spiritual presence of devotees and well-wishers, the sacred rites were conducted with traditional Vedic chants, invoking blessings from the divine for the prosperity and success of the Gosala.

Adding to the sanctity of the occasion, Swami Abhyanjana was also performed by Smt. S.S. Iyengar, signifying a deep spiritual connection and heartfelt offering to Lord Venugopalaswamy. The divine vibrations created during the pooja filled the atmosphere with a sense of peace, devotion, and divine grace, marking the beginning of a journey rooted in faith, tradition, and the noble cause of protecting and nurturing the sacred Punyakoti Gomatha.

Offering Prayers during Bhoomi Pooja

The Bhoomi Pooja was performed with deep devotion and spiritual fervor, marking the sacred beginning of the Gosala’s foundation. As part of the rituals, heartfelt prayers were offered to Mother Earth (Bhoomi Devi), seeking her blessings for a strong and prosperous foundation. Devotees, led by Smt. S.S. Iyengar, participated in the ceremony with great reverence, chanting Vedic mantras that resonated with divine energy. 

The rituals symbolized gratitude towards nature and invoked the protection and grace of the deities to ensure harmony, peace, and success for the project. The sacred offerings, combined with the pure intentions of the devotees, created an atmosphere filled with spiritual bliss and positivity, paving the way for the Gosala’s divine journey.

With the divine blessings of Lord Venugopala Swamy, Smt. S. S. Iyengar had the honor of offering pooja to consecrate the sacred “Peeta” Gopuram for the Lord. This auspicious process included the intricate decoration of the “Garbha Gudi” and the majestic “Keerita Stamba”. The interior was adorned with the finest quality teak wood, reflecting exquisite craftsmanship, while the Gopuram was crafted from the highest quality brass, adding a touch of grandeur and divinity. The entire process, rooted in devotion and meticulous attention to detail, commenced in January 2019 and was successfully completed in July 2019, marking another significant milestone in the temple’s sacred journey.

The entire project was lovingly mentored by devotee Smt. S. S. Iyengar, whose guidance and dedication were instrumental in its success. The exquisite interior decoration was masterfully designed and executed by Mr. Ravi, an accomplished architect from Chennai, who ensured that every detail reflected beauty, precision, and spiritual elegance.
